  • Keeping the Peace?

This is a delicate time for both India and Pakistan. After the end of the horrific seige, fingers are being pointed at rogue elements of the Pakistani Intelligence arm. Some are saying that Pakistan has not done enough to control those elements, and if evidence is found that clearly shows, that this is the case and Pakistan people committed this atrocity, it will be hard to for India to maintain civil relations with Pakistan. The reason these things are being said about Pakistan, is that the sole terrorist who was captured, contrary to early reports of four being captured, was from Pakistan. He said, again reportedly, that he was trained in Pakistan, on Pakistan soil, by Pakistan terrorists. The young man also said that two of their group members, came to Pakistan, gathered information on their targets, and the group of trained terrorosts, were given Goggle maps, and told to follow the maps to find the places. The Pakistan Government is telling the Indian Government, that they will do whatever it takes to find those responsible, if indeed they came from Pakistan. The Chief of Intelligence for Pakistan, is traveling to India to assist with the investigation, as well as a team from the United States and Britain. One analyst reported that time is running out, as President-Elect Obama is going to try to keep the relationship between the two countries, on an even keel, but there is only about two months time to shore up these, tattered feelings, as India might want some sort of response to this attack, not necessarily militant, but some sort of action to inform Pakistan, that it must do more to control the terrorist within its borders, or they will be called on it.
The investigation will be on-going. There were reports that some Indian police, in the rescue effort, were killed while wearing bullet proof vests, and were ill-equipped to deal with the attack. In addition, reportedly, it took three hours for the fire truck to get to the scene of the fire at the Taj Hotel.
It is obvious, Ratan Tata, the owner of the Taj Hotel said, in an interview, that India needs a Crisis Management Team, well trained and equipped, to deal with these types of situations.

  • Mumbai Seige Over!

It took some three days, but the seige by terrorists in Mumbai, India has been bought under control, by the Indian Commandos. It is reported that ten terroists waged unbearable destruction and chaos, upon the city of Mumbai. The terrorists, were reportedly wearing simple tee shirts, no masks, and they carried dried fruit with them, to sustain themselves, while they terrorized the city and its people. They
were described as being under thirty years old, well trained, well financed, and emotionless. The commandos did not know the layout of the Taj Hotel, as well as the terrorists, as the hotel had multiply twists and turns, which made it very difficult. The tourists also had their room doors locked, to try to protect themselves, and while the commandos were looking for the terrorists in the hotel, they did not break down the doors. The commandos found timed explosives, in various areas of the hotel.
The remaining two terrorist were said to be holded up in the ballroom of the Taj Hotel. Hours before dusk, there was on-going gunfire, and then a loud explosion inside the hotel. This was the beginning of the end of the seige, the two terrorists were killed, and it was over. The Taj Hotel was very damaged, fires on the fourth, sixth and eighth floors were said to have severly compromised the hotel. The hotel is a landmark which will be repaired if possible, reportedly as a symbol to the terrorists. The number of injured was reduced to two-hundred and ninety-six, the number of those who were killed was reported at one-hundred and ninety-five.
A total of twenty police and soliders were killed, during the standoff. Two terrorists were said to have escaped, four were captured, and the remaining four were killed. The Pakistani Minister of Intelligence, is being sent to India, to try to assist with the investigation, and to reduce the tensions between the two countries. U. S. citizens, have been warned by the State Department, that they are still at risk in Mumbai.

The President of the United States, held a video conference with his National Security team, and Secretary Rice, to stay on top of the situation. He has also offered India, whatever it is they need, from the United States. President-Elect Obama, is being given daily intelligence briefings, as well.

The New York City police, have ramped up security on subways and trains, in the city, in view of a threat, without specifics, aimed at the transportation system of New York, during the holidays.

The Thai Prime Minister, declared a state of emergency at the Bangkok Airport, protesters continued their rallies. Thousands of travelers have been stranded, by the ongoing incident.

The Iraqi Parliament voted on, and passed the Security Agreement between the United States and the Iraqi Government, which in effect will have the U. S. troopes out of the populated areas in June, 2009, they will remain on their bases, unless authority is given, by the Iraqi Government to leave the bases, to participate in any mission. All of the troops will leave in 2012, as per the agreement, there is flexibility, it is reported, whereby one or the other countries can make the decision to alter the date of complete withdrawal of the troops.

There are huge markdowns, in high-end luxary stores in the United States, which is indicitive of the slowdown in spending by consumers.

  • Mumbai Still Problematic

In Mumbai, India, the standoff by terrorists is not quite over, but the Indian Commandos have most of the problem areas under control. There are thought to be at least two terrorists still holded up in one of the hotels, sparodic gunfire, is still being heard. The incident at the jewish Center, which was attacked, was very brutal. The Rabbi in charge of the center and his wife were killed. Rabbi Gabriel Holtaberg, 29, and his wife, 28, were from New York, their toddler was saved, when the nanny managed to escape the center. It was thought that some of the terrorists worked in the kitchen at the Taj hotel. The attack was being planned for six months, reportedly. The Indian Commandos were very much the reason, the terrorists were captured, or killed, but not before causing much death and destruction. There were one-hundred and sixty people reported killed thus far, and three-hundred and forty-six people reported injured. Scotland Yard is invloved in the investigation, along with British Intelligence. Some of the terrorists, reportedly had British identification. The F.B.I. is traveling to India with a team consisting of forensic experts, negotiators and interrogation experts. The Indian people were shocked, that India's security people had no idea this attack was coming.
President Bush had been working fervently, to try to push for closer relationship between the two countries, Pakistan and India, each of whom have nuclear weapons power. This attempt may be set back now, as India is pointing fingers at Pakistan, as having something to do with the attack. It is also thought, without any proof, that Al Queda may have been behind the terrorist attack. The operation was too well planned, it is thought, to have been carried out by a local group. Also rumored, that rogue elements of Pakistani Intelligence, may have been involved.

Both President Bush and President-Elect Obama are being briefed regarding the ongoing crisis. They have both condemned the attacks and the brutality.

They also say, that all the flurry of news about the push and pull, that she would be offered, she wouldn't, Mr. Clinton was not cooperating, Mrs Clinton wasn't sure, was all fictitious in effect, and that things have been going as they should. So look for the announcement, sometime after the holiday. Okay.

  • Just Let Me Rock!

Grandma, Grandma, lend me your old rocking chair,

So I can sit, ease my mind, and just rock away.

Don't feel much like walking, running or such,

Just want to rock, rock my cares away.

So Grandma, please, take a short break,

Give me time, to sit where you have sat,

I for one, feel like rocking my blues away.

Don't need forever, a little deliberate time will do,

My various, somewhat meaningful cares away.

  • Dangerous Territory!

The DOW has fallen another 427 points, taking it below 8,000,
the lowest since March 2003. The S & P is at a very low point at well. With the news coming out of Washington, no positive bailout vote for the auto companies, possibly this week, from Congress, foreclosures not being addressed, in a seemingly, serious way, consumers pulling in their horns, and not spending enough to boost the economy, and jobs being cut in every corner, with no positve view in sight.
All this does not make for the DOW to be on the upswing, all be it, the buying opportunities are huge. With the DOW breaking through 8,000, on thebdownside, it is a bit scary for the financial markets.
If Congress, as it appears they may, allows the Automobile Industry, to lose one of the big three, to bankruptcy, this monkey wrench, may ultimately bring things to a screeching halt, and all bets may be off, as to how far the DOW falls.
This Friday may bring things to a head, or start the beginning of the end, there is a thought process, by some in Congress, that the auto companies should go into bankruptcy, reorganize,
and come back strong with new policies, new ideas, new cars, and a restructuring. My question, who would buy a car from a
company that is in bankruptcy? If the companies are going to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it will be a destruction in confidence, and no one will turn to these companies for an automobile, warranties would be out the window, where would the responsiblilty be, if the new car was a lemon? Forget it, not to mention the millions of jobs, that would be lost, all around the country. Bad news, and the fact that there will probably be a negative vote, in Congress. to provide a bailout loan is baffaling.

More interesting dangerous news, the pirates are having a ball, hi-jacking cargo ships and tankers, off the coast of Africa. This year alone, there have been 95 attacks, double the amount in 2007, by pirates, there are not enough warships, patrolling the area, to control the attacks. There are hundreds of miles of water to patrol, with twelve warships trying to control the area. The pirates are not interested in harming the crews, twenty ships have been held, with three hundred crew members on board, they are holding the ships for ransom. There has been twenty million dollars, in ransom paid to rescue these ships and crew members. The shipping owners, are considering avoiding the coast of Africa altogether, and going all the way around South Africa, which would add many miles and wuld reportedly cost an additional thirty thousand dollars per extra day. This will ultimately bring a rise, in the cost of oil, to Europe and the United States.

Lastly, there were remarks made by former Secretary of State Lawrence Egleberger, forgive me if I misspelled his name, but no matter, he was answering a question, regarding the selection of Senator Hillary Clinton as the new Secretary of State by the Obama camp. Mr Egleberger, said "that since the President-Elect did not know a foreign affairs policy, from a hole in the wall", then it would be good to have Mrs. Clinton,
as his Secretary of State. Well Mr. Egelberger, with all due respect, let's see now, number one, when the war began, and Obama was not in the U. S. Senate, he made it known that the Iraq war, before it started, would be a bad idea, right!. When Mr. Obama said during the debates, that if he had actionable intellegence, and Osama Bin Laden was somewhere on the Pakistan, Afghanistan border, he would take him out in essence, if Pakistan would not do it. Everyone, including Senator Clinton, jumped all over him for being naive, and not knowing what he was doing. A month or so later, the Bush administration, with a drone, bombed the same border, and killed a couple of terrorists, right! Then, when the Afghanistan war was starting to fail, Senator John McCain said we would be able to "muddle through", or words to that effect, Obama said we needed more troops, lets get out of Iraq, and send troops where they were needed, at least two bridgades should be sent. A month or so later the Generals in charge, said they needed more troops in Afghanistan, John McCain jumped on board and said we should send three brigades to the area, right!. It seems as though the one, Secretary Egleberger, who has been leading the military and foreign
strategy has been Obama. Oh yes, he also said he would talk to Iran, he was chastized for that remark, next thing we know, the current administration was sending an envoy, to Iran, not to talk, but to listen, strange, but more than they had been doing for six years, right!. Now it would appear, that there has not been a Republican in the last 50 years, who has garnered such attention and goodwill as Obama. Now the newness will surely wear off, but could it be, that you and your ilk, are just a bit jealous of the man, who can draw two hundred thousand people, in a foreign country, and be in awe of it himself, and that this is more than you can take? Thou doth protest too much sir, and you should just shut up, and go jogging or something, you need something to do, with your fat self. You are not the smartest banana in the bunch, otherwise you would have stopped your party and it's leaders from destroying the country for the last eight years, and leaving this freaking mess for Obama to try to clean up. Right, right!

  • Forgiving of the Unforgiveable!

Today was the day that the Democrats met, to decide whether to take away the Chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee,
held by Senator Joseph Lieberman. After the meeting today, Senator Harry Reid explained what had happened. They had voted, by secret ballot, to allow Senator Lieberman to keep the Chairmanship, as well as be on one other committee, he had to relinquish his seat an Envoirmental & Security Committee. Mr. Lieberman had no problem doing that. he was repentent to a degree, say there were some things he wished he had not said. Sure, anyone would apologize at this point, when you might be kicked to the curb, for absurdity. During his support, for Senator McCain, he called Senator everything from socialist to communist and some things in between. President-Elect Obama had said to Senator Reid that he wanted Senator Lieberman to continue to causus with the Democrats, especially with things in the shape that they are, he needs every vote that he can get, to push his programs through the senate. Taking the high road serves Obama well, smart play.

Speculation continues, regarding Senator Clinton as Secretary of State. Her husband, former President, Bill Clinton is supposedly being vetted. There is word that the Senaten will not have a problem confirming Senator Clinton, there is a lot of respect for her work ethic.

The auto company executives testified on Capitol Hill today, explaining why they needed twenty-five billion dollars more, than they had already been allocated. The members in Congress, were divided over whether to provide the money, Democrats were slightly more willing than the Republicans. It's reported that GM, may fail before years end, for lack of operating cash.

The Republicans are breathing a sigh of relief, as they had drawn up a resolution, to expel Senator Stevens from the Senate, because of his felony conviction, if he won. They tabled it, until Thursday of this week, awaiting the outcome of the election. Today was Senator Steven's birthday.

  • Treading Water Until?

It was reported in so many other words, that the person that the G-20 leaders at the Economic Summit on Saturday in Washington, D. C., wanted to meet was not in attendance. Who might that be, you ask, how about the President-Elect Barack Obama. mr. Obama sent former Secretary of State madeline Albright and former Republican Representative, Jim Lynch, who had endorsed Obama early on. The summit ended with a call for another meeting in April 2009. The leaders agreed to stronger regulations, more visability, more free trade, and more stimulus, to aggressively attack the global market turndown.

The IMF is increasing its war chest, to tackle the global economic crisis.

There will be a debate regarding the bailout needed by the Automobile Industry, when the Congress returns to work, this week. A decision has to be made, whether there will be a loan extended to the big three to keep them afloat or will they have to file bankruptcy papers, effecting millions of employees.

  • Team of Rivals?

It would appear that President-Elect Obama, has read Doris Kearns Goodwin's book about President Abraham Loincoln's grand idea, to bring those who were running against him for President, and other people who had opposed his ideas, into his Presidential cabinet, and let them assist him in running the country. This truned out to be a fantastic idea, get the best to help with the problems facing your administration. Yesterday President-Elect Obama, met with Senator Hillary Clinton in Chicago. The word is being spreade around, that he would like her to be the Secretary of State, we will have to waith for an annoucement, to confirm. Obama is also scheduled to meet with Senator John McCain and Senator Lynsey Graham, next week in Chicago, as well. Very smart strategy, we would think. Also a sign of confidence on President-Elect Obama's part.

The G-20 will be meeting in Washngton, D. C. , to try to find sme solutions to the global economic crisis. Prime Minister Brown of England and President Bush will be the main leaders, hoping to find some sound answers as we go forward.

  • News & Noise!

It's going to be okay, but you might want to close your ears. When a tree falls, there is some noise, when it is falling slowly, the anticipation of noise could be worse than the final crash. The U. S. DOW moved soundly down yesterday, falling 411 points at the close of the session. Overseas markets follwed suit, with the Nikki and Hong Kong markets, worried about the global markets, getting worse and taking longer to turn around. The worries were not without cause, as Treasury Secretary Paulson, nervously drinking water continuously during his speech, explained to the audience, that things had gotten much worse in the economy, and the credit markets, and that the original plan, of buying up bad mortgages, was not going to work and they had to start over with a new plan. From what he reported, the Government is now going to purchase a stake in the banks and financial companies, with hopes of stimulating lending. The two-hundred and fifty billion dollar amount alloted to Paulson from the seven-hundred billion dollar package, is evidently not doing what they thought it would. This caused a lack of confidence in the public at large, as to whether anybody knows what the heck to do with this monster of a problem. Let's all hope that somebody gets a grip, before we cascade completely downhill.
Just saw this, the U. S. atock market has reportedly lost
over a trillion dollars in the past three days.

    J. P. Morgan and Citi-Bank are starting to modify those loans in their portfolio's, that are headed for foreclosure, reducing interest rates and payments to try to keep some people, in their homes.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are also modifying a large portion
of their FHA mortgages, to stay the foreclosures on the properties.

The Automobile Industry, in the U. S. is hearing some sounds of possible relief from Congress, as word is, that Representative Barney Frank, is set to write up a bill, by Tuesday of next week, allowing the industry to receive the twenty-five billion that it says it needs to survive. Secretary Paulson had said that the money should not come from the initial bailout funds, as the industry was not covered in the package. The industry gave notice that it had about one-hundred days before possibility of filing bankruptcy papers, as they have minimal daily operating capital. President-Elect Obama, reportedly, would like to appoint a Car Czar, to oversee the industry, at some time in the future.

Now here's a sad statement, American Express is reporting that they may need a cash infusion from the Government. May the rest of us please, put in our bid, for a little of the passing out of available funds. Jimmynies.

Governor Sarah Palin is in a "Girl Gone Wild" stage, having interviews with no less than Larry King, Matt Lauer, Wolf Blitzer, and Greta Van Sustern. All's well that ends well. I guess. During the General Election, Democratic Senator, Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, choose to support his good buddy, Republican John McCain, for President. Great, your choice, Mr. Lieberman. Lobbing names like socialist and other choice titles, like communist and terrorist, by association, at Senator Obama during the race.
Nice words for a supposed Democratic leaning Senator. Now all of that would have been a very good tactic, if, if, Senator McCain had been elected, but hold on, the President-elect, is now Barack Obama. Now what? With hat in hand, so to speak, Senator Lieberman, strolls on back to Washington, D. C., for a meeting with the leader of the Senate, Harry Ried, who wants Joe Lieberman, to take a hike. Hit the road Jack! Reportedly, Senator Reid told Mr. Lieberman, that he could still caucus with the Democrats, if he choose to, but they were going to strip him of his Chairmanship of the Home Land Security Committee. No joke. So Senator Lieberman reportedly said, not acceptable. There will be a meeting of the Democratic caucus, with a secret ballot vote, to determine if Mr. Lieberman will continue as Chairman. There are a lot of Senators, like Chris Dodd, and others who want him to continue in his position, President-elect Obama even offered an olive branch, suggesting to Senator Reid, that Lieberman be allowed to continue. The Republicans are looking to pull him over to their side, leaving the Dems with one less vote, if Mr. Lieberman, moves to the other side. Connecticut voters will have an interesting scenario on their hands, come next election. Stay tuned.

  • Up on Election Day!

It is 3:00 p.m. EST, and the DOW is up 177 points. The new President should have a much more positive approval rating, than the current President, be it Senator Barack Obama or Senator John McCain.

And so he has, he spoke about his grandmother at one of his rallies, saying that she was not well know, or famous, but she was an ordinary hero, as many in his audience were, someone who had worked hard and did the right thing. He was not ashamed to cry as he spoke.

This election day in the United States, there have been people, standing in line, for five and six hours, in order to cast their vote. This is a historical election, people are excited to vote to change the country for the better. There have been thousands of
new people registered to vote. Those who follow trends in elections, have looked at what is going on this time, and there are those who are seeing a realignment in the states, whether, it is a one time change, or a lasting event, we will have to wait to see. But the typical red states are turning towards blue. This has been the call by Senator Obama, since he spoke at the Democratic convention, when Senator John Kerry was running for president. When Obama said during his speech, that there were no red states, and no blue states, there was only the United States of America. This election will be history making whoever wins, because there will be the first African-American male, elected President or the first female elected as Vice-President of the United States.
