Mumbia,India, has been subject to a series of attacks, by
terrorists, thought to have come from Pakistan. Attacks took place against a restaurant, two hotels, and a train station,
also a hospital. Hostages were taken by those who may be Islamic terrorists. There are individuals still holed up in their hotel rooms, they were calling in to the TV News stations, telling what they had witnessed. The terrorists requested the passports of those they confronted, and took those with British and American passports as hostages. Some hostages were reportedly released. Eighty people were reportedly killed, and two-hundred and forty were reportedly injured. The Chief of the Anti-Terrorism Unit along with at least nine other police officers were also killed. Seven British people were injured in the attacks. The Taj Mahal and the Oberoi Hotels were targets in the ten co-ordinated attacks, throughout the area. The Indian Army came in to try to quell the violence. Nine of the terrorists were captured, two killed and three escaped. The situation is still evolving. The attacks have beeb condemned by both President Bush and President-Elect Obama.
The EU put forth a plan to support the economy with two hundred billion pounds, which some felt was not enough. A decision will be made on December 11, at another summit.
President-Elect Obama's News Conference was directed at explaining that although he has people from the Clinton administration in his cabinet, the new ideas will be coming
directly from him. He said he would be criticized if he had all new people without anyone with experience working with him to solve these economic and other problems, facing the country. He said he is determined to cut waste from the budget, such as the thriving farmers, who are receiving subsidies from the Government, even though they are not
eligible, which had just been reported that morning.
GDP growth in the United States fell by .5% in the third quarter.
