Chrysler will shut down its plants for four weeks, Ford will close its plants for week plus the holidays, GM will shut down for three moonths, in a rolling fashion. Thirty Chrysler plants will be affected, union members will be paid but not full salary. Plants are usually shut down for one week during the holiday season in December.

The White House is said to be working out a plan to assist the industry with the bridge loan the auto makers needed to get them through the end of the year. Ford only wanted a line of credit accessibility. GM and Chrysler have restarted merger talks.

Bernard Madoff, appeared in court today, to put up collateral, and his passport, to assure he will not flee, and to be granted bail. He is also required to wear an ankle bracelet.
