Well it's official, the U. S. is in a recession. Fact is, we have been in a recession, according to the experts, since
December, 2007. This is a global recession and they last for 16-18 months. This also may be much deeper than an ordinary global recession, becasue of the sub-prime mortgage crisis, reaching overseas, to many foriegn countries.
The stock market heard the word recesiojn, and went beserk, losing nearly 700 points.The overseas, markets are following suit as usual. This week may be a pitiful thing to see, as far as weakness on the DOW and all maekets for that matter.
Retail sales are not as good as they have to be just to break even. Later this week, unemployment numbers may push the job loss rate up close to 7%, in the U. S., another causation for market panic.
President-Elect Obama inteoduced his diverse Security team, which has been called one of the strongest, possibly in U. S.
history, Senator Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense, staying on, Eric Holder, Attorney General, Susan Rice, permanent, U. S Ambassador to the U. N. (Cabinet level position), Major General James Jones, National Security Advisor, and Governor Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security. Mr. Obama said basically, that he wanted strong, smart people who would vigorous debate the issues and come up with the best decisions for the country. I'd say he got his wish.
It had been reported that there was no warning to India regarding the attack on Mumbai, but it has been revealed that the United States and another intellengence group, informed Indi, that terrorists may have been coming from the sea, and would attack a hotel, possibly. India had extra security for a while, then they reduced it a short while before the terrorist
arrived in the country. They came by sea, hijacked a ship, killed the captian, and used a dingy to come ashore, mingled with the crowds and eventually, carried out their plans.
The terrorists were identified as coming from Pakistan, trained in that country by outlaw Pakistani terrorosts. there was a cell phone found and an e-mail, tracked back through a Russian server with a Pakistani user. The lone captured survivor, filled in the details of the information, he is from Pakistan as well, he said as all the other men who were with him. The Pakistan Government denies that they had anything to do with the attacks. Some feel thay, there had to be some local involvement, based on the knowledge the terrorist had about the lay of the land. Yesterday, reportedly, another bomb blast went off in eastern India.
Secretarty Rice will be in India on Wednesday to met with officials, she is urging Pakistan to fully co-operate, with India in determing who is respomsible for the tragedy.
Ms. Rice is trying to keep the two countries, concentrating on finding out who was actually respomsible for the attack. The Indian Government is being put under extreme pressure to respond to the attack, against Pakistan. Pakistan sauys it had nothing to do with the attacks. Tricky, tricky.
