The impeachment trial of Illinois Governor Blagojevich, ended today with the Governor making an impassioned speech before the State Senate, stating over and over that he had done nothing wrong. He said he only wanted to present witnesses
to testify on his behalf that he was innocent. The Governor had previously stated that he was not allowed to present witnesses, which some Illinois lawmakers said that was not true. The Governor did not attend his trial neither did he have a lawyer represent him at the trial. The two seats which were available for the Governor and his lawyer, were left empty throughout the three day trial. The Governor spoke for forty-five minutes. After he was finished, about four hours later the full Senate voted, 59 to 0 to impeach the Governor and end his term in office after almost six years. The Governor had already packed up his things and was ready to leave the Governor's office. Governor Blagojevich had made the circuit on many talk shows pleading his case to anyone who would listen, tomorrow, he will probably show up again to talk about the aftermath of the impeachment. The Lieutenant Governor
took over and was sworn in immediately after the vote ended.
