President-elect Obama gave a speech at George Mason University today, telling the Governors and Mayors who attended the speech, that the Congress must quickly put the stimulus package together, and get it to his desk before the end of next month. If this does not occur, Mr. Obama said we may never recover, and the consequences are very dire, if that happens. More job losses, more people losing their savings, and their homes. During the month of December there were 653 thousand jobs lost in the United States. Just elected again, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is with Mr. Obama, she stated they will get the package to the President-elect. The package has tax cuts, spending on infrastructure, tax credits, improving medical reporting systems, alternative energy source improvement, job creation and money to help the states. There will be a huge deficit increase, but this is neccessary according to most economists. The international community is looking to the United States to improve its
economy so that other countries will improve.
At this point the stimulus package, is set to cost around $775 billion dollars, some say it will rise to 1.3 trillion dollars. Yet most economists agree that there has to be massive spending in order to jolt the economy onto a better track. It still will take some time to turn the economy around. Some are predicting that during the second half of 2009, there should be signs of a turn around.
