Of the fifty United States, all but four are suffering from budget deficits. Some of those states, with the largest deficits, reportedly include New Jersey, 6.1 billion, Florida, 8.1 billion, New York, 15.4 billion, and California, 39.6 billion. When the states recieve the funds from the stimulus package, the deficits will hopefully be lessened.

Mr. Stanford reportedly has a two billion dollar fortune.

A key base in Afhganistan, crucial to the U> S. troops is being closed by Kyrgyzstan's Parliament. The Russian government is supposed to pay more for the use of the base than the United States. Secretary Gates said the U. S. would be willing to pay more, but not the asking price requested. The price requested was one billion dollars.

The New York Times reports that the United States banks are like "dead men walking", most of them are insolvent, including Citigroup and Bank of America, reportedly. Many in Congress and elsewhere are calling for the banks which cannot survive to go out of business, and let the strong ones continue.
