There has been an eruption of a huge magnitude. AIG disclosed in early 2008, reportedly that there were bonuses of one-hundred and sixty-five million, scheduled by contract to be paid to certain employees. Problem is, no one paid any attention until now, when AIG has receved billions of dollars in bailout money from the Federal Governmnet. The Government now has an 80% share in AIG at this time, according to Democrat Barney Frank, who says that we should (Congress), not be acting like the ones who gave AIG the billions of dollars, but like those who own AIG, with a 80% share, and
force them to return the money given to them, so that it can be returned to the taxpayers. Senator Chuck Grassley, went even further, he said in essence, "that AIG executives should get on their knees, and beg for forgiveness, or else just commit suicide". Senator Grassley later said that he did not really mean that they should kill themselves. Senator Chuck Schumer said it is disgraceful, unacceptable, and offensive to the taxpayers, that AIG should give that money back, and if they don't return the money the Government will do it for them. Senator Max Backus is looking into how high of an Excise tax can be levied, on the bonuses received. Is that legal, to target specific individuals for a higher rate of tax? Why not, since AIG paid the bonuses, and received the billions in bailout money, request that they return the equilivant of the bonuses paid?
