The loud uproar over the huge bonuses receieved by AIG executives continued today, with calls for Treasury Secretary Geithner's resignation, and President Obama standing firmly behind him, not waivering in his support. The Republicans kept trying to throw blame on the Obama administration for allowing the bonuses to be paid by AIG, while the company received TARP money for a bailout. But, the bill allowing it, was a part of the previous administration and occurred in September 2008, prior to Obama being elected as President, so that dog doesn't bark. But the power play of the day was a move by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representative Barney Frank, who introduced a bill in the House, affixing an Excise Tax of up to 90% on the bonuses that AIG executives received. The bill was going to pass with only the Democrats, when the Republicans not wanting to appear to allow the executives to keep the money, jumped on board, over 80 of them and backed the bill. The big problem is the bill is unconstitutional. No bill can be written expo facto, "after the fact", nor can you pass a Bill of Attainer, one directed at specific individuals, according to Article 9 of the Constitution. All lawmakers must or should know this, the Republicans were tricked into voting for an ubconstitutional bill, which will never get to the Senate. Just last week the Rebublicans were shouting to the hills, "you can't cap executives salaries, it is against our great capitalistic system", in essence. What a crowd, not to
memtion the Democrats playibg games in the Congress, just to make the Republicans look like hypocrites, and that they did.
