  • Father Cutie Follows His Heart! Leaves Catholic Church!

A photograph was made public of a man and a lady on the beach embracing. No problem, except that the man was a priest who had taken a vow of celibacy and was the leader of a large Catholic parish. His parishioners loved him, so did the lady on the beach. After the release of the photograph, all heck broke loose as to what the priest was show doing in public while still leading his flock. Celibate, girlfriend, the leaders of the church wanted answers, the priest had none. He was a bit confused and decided to take some time off to decide his future. After careful consideration and deliberation with himself and those who were a part of the situtation, Father Alberto Cutie, and he is cute, of Miami, Florida, decided to leave the Catholic priesthood. He then joined an Epsicopal Church, where he will be studying to become a leader again, this church has a volunteer celibacy rule. Father Cutie will have to pass certain tests, and if all goes well, he will again be doing what he loves, leading a flock, but this time possibly accompanied by the lady on the beach, in his after hours.

  • Supreme Court Justice Choice: Judge Sonia Sotomayor

President Barack Obama has announced his choice to replace retiring Judge David Souter. Judge Sonia Sotomayor of New
York has been selected as the nominee to be the first Hispanic Judge on the court and only the third woman to be
potentially seated on the Supreme Court. The President was said to be "blown away" by Judge Sotomayor's background, and her intellectual ability and knowledge of the law. She is a graduate with honors from Princeton, and a Yale Law graduate, having served as the Yale Law Review President as President Obama served as President of Harvard's Law Review.
The Judge grew up in the projects, was diagnosed with diabetes at age eight, and told that she would not be able to realize her dreams with that illness. Her father spoke no english, had a third grade education, they came to America from Puerto Rico. She and her brother were born in the Bronx in New York. At age nine, her father died, her mother took two jobs, one as a nurse, to support the family. Judge Sotomayor, while attending Catholic school, where her mother believed she and her brother, who is a doctor, would have a very good education, earned schlorships to Princeton and graduated with honors, going on to receive her law degree from Yale Law School. She has served for six years as a trial judge, and twelve years as an Appellate Court Judge.
The President statede that she has more experience as a trial judge than anyone else on the Supreme Court, at the time of their appointment. President G. H. W. Bush a Republican nominated her to the lower court initially and President Bill Clinton selected her for the Appellate Court.
Judge Sotomayor, as pointed out by the President in his remarks, took 15 minutes to issue an injunction ending the baseball strike in the 94-95 season, some, he said, would say she saved baseball. The president also said the Jodge has a rigious intellect, the ability to answer complex questions regarding the law, and to be impartial which is needed but also, a judge must have the experience of real life, of overcoming barriers, and hardships, and still acheiving their goals as she has done. A mastery of the law with a sense of compassion. So the presdient said after deep reflection and careful consideration, and speaking to every member of the Senator Judiciary Committee, reaching out to many groups and people with various concerns, he made his choice, which he was very excited about. Judge Sotomayor was, as she said very humbled, never would she have dreamed that she would be in this place. She said that she felt that she was an ordinary person who had extra-ordinary opportunites and experiences, today was one of those experiences. She gave her mother all the credit for where she is today, and said that she was not half the person her mother was, for how she had supported and helped her and her brother succeed in life. Judge Sotomayor said she was inspired by the Founding Fathers and the profound principles found in the Constitution. That she would apply those principles to the questions and controversies of today. The Republicans are already labeling her as a liberal activist judge. Some of her cases will be laid bare by the opposition, but the Republicans should beware of putting themselves on the side of fighting the third woman possibly being appointed, and only the first Hispanic individual ever. Also they do not want to further alienate Hispanic voters, so a fine line has to be walked with this nominee. She will probably be confirmed after the Republicans do all they can to try to appear resolute in their convictions, which in the end will be rejected by the majority of sensible Senate members. Great historical choice by the President, his first time out.

  • GQ: Rumsfeld Pushing For Crusade?

GQ magazine presents a very insightful articele by Robert Draper, who received a bunch of memos from Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, to Former President George W. Bush (both in office at the time), briefing the President on the war in Iraq. These memo all had cover letters attached, with pictures, which were captioned with biblical verses.
Those who complained about the religious connotations were told that these cover letters would continue to be used. The memos were only circulated to a dozen or so higly positioned individuals, reportedly. One analyst stated that this was Rumsfeld's cynical appeal to the religious right, and his obivious exploitation of the President's thoughts regarding his faith and the fact that the President felt he had a special divine mission to carry out. The Reverend C. Welton Gaddy, President of the Interfaith Alliance appearing on "Countdown" with Keith Oberman, stated that this whole
thing in essence, was a prostitution of the Bible, and a strategy of propaganda for the war in Iraq. Mr. Draper was given the memos by someone, who he said did not have a bone to pick, but who was concerned that Donald Rumsfeld had caused George W. Bush to make a lot of missteps, and many felt that Rumsfeld undermined the Bush legacy, and they were concerned with protecting the legacy of Mr. Bush. But then, didn't the "Crusade" idea first come from Mr. Bush, in 2003, when he said early on that, "this "Crusade", war on terrorist is going to take a long time."

Another report on the Bush/Rumsfeld relationship, was reported regarding the Katrina debacle. The President it has been reported recently, wanted the Department of Defense and Rumsfeld to send troops into New Orleans to assist with the problems and the people stranded. The people of New Orleans felt that the city was "lawless". Rumsfeld kept stonewalling, it is said that he felt that with two wars ongoing, that the troops had a particular role and that role should not be infringed upon. The President had to demand that the troops be sent to New Orleans, Rumsfeld finally complied with the President's wishes. Mr. Rumsfeld, it is reported, is busy writing his book, and reports are that he will probably not address the article in GQ magazine now, but will expand his book to include information about the memo covers, touting scriptures.

  • Top Commander in Afghanistan Fired!

There was a report out today that this has not happened since Eiserhower fired MacArthur. The firing of a top General
during a war. Which is what happened in the past several days, when Secretary of Defense Gates, with the approval of President Obama, fired the top commander in Afghanistan. General David McKiernan, has been replaced by Lieutenant General Stanley McChrystal.
The reports are that, there were civilians who were killed during bombing incidents and logistical problems on the ground that were hindering progress with the war in Afghanistan. There is to be a new mission, according to reports. The new Commander reportedly has counter-intelligence experience and was also a special forces man.

So sick of Dick! Cheney. The former Vice-President is running from Sunday news show to Sunday news show, this past week on "Face the Nation", trying to make his case against the Obama administration, that the country is now less safe than under the Bush/Cheney administration. Mose logical expert who are not so far to the right that they tip over on their chair, have stated that the Bush administration, after being warned that Osama Bin Laden was determined to strike the United States in August of 2001, did nothing, not even a meeting to discusss possible precautions according to Richard Clark's book on the subject. At that time Condelezza
Rice informed the President, threw the intelligence information in her in-box and kept moving. W was in Texas tossing tumbleweeds or whatever. We were attacked, a campaign to go after Saddam Hussein was instigated, we were lied to, and invaded a country that had not a thing to do with 9/11, and more than 4,000 soldiers were killed, defending a non-sensical cause of searching for weapons of mass destruction, which were never found. What did happen was that Iraq became a recruiting mechanism for Al Queda and Americans began to be targeted around the world. The U. S. was spared, but experts again say that is because it takes a long time to plan and penetrate the United States. So in actuality, the Bush/Cheney administration has contributed more to the lack of safety here, than anything the Obama administration has or has not done. Cheney's daughter even comes out defending his premise, with insane conclusions, if torture is illegal, you broke the freaking law, be big enough to own it, you did it, stand up. Funny, Cheney defends torture, but when it was his turn to go to war, he ran around saying he had something better to do, and received five deferments, reportedly from the Vietman war, so courageous, this chicken-hawk.
