Another one bites the dust! South Carolina's Governor Mark Sanford has announced that he had an affair with an Argentina woman who he has know for eight years. The Governor said the affair only started one year ago. Governor Sanford disappeared for five days, without telling anyone exactly where he was going, not the Lt. Governor nor his wife. His wife, when questioned said she didn't know where he was, and the last part of the statement was revealed today, "and that she didn't care". A formal statement from the Governor's wife said that she had asked the Governor to leave and not to talk to her, ten days prior to his revelation. Today in a written statement she indicated that she would be willing to forgive him completely as long as he would work with humility to, in essence repair the relationship. She had agreed to a trial separation, ans she also said she loved her husband and that she believed he had earned the right to try to resurrect their marriage. That was prior to three e-mails being released by the State newspaper of South Carolina, which had held the e-mails for any months, without publishing them. Today a reporter for the newspaper said, after she encountered the Governor arriving by plane from Argentina, that they informed the Governor that the e-mails, which the paper received from an anonymous source would be published. The e-mail were between the woman named Maria and the Governor which go into details about hips and kisses, love and happiness with being close to one another. For further details search the internet. The Governor said the affair started over innocent e-mails. Sad times for the children and the innocent spouses in these circumstances. Hypocrisy also raises its head again as Governor Sanford verbally accused Bill Clinton of lying about his affair and calling into question his honesty with everything else. There is also a question of whether or not Governor Sanford used taxpayer money to pay for his trips to Argentina, reportedly this is not the first of those trips. My thought, it is nobodies business who you share your bed with, just remember, if you serve in a public venue, and are married, there are always eyes around checking to see which bedroom socket your personal nightlight has been plugged into. Finally, the Governor made no mention of resigning his Governorship, he did resign as Chairman of the GOP Governors Association, Governor Haley Barbour will take over that position. The Governor asked for a zone of privacy for his wife and children. The Governor was on a fast track to a possible nomination for
the presidency, that appears to be out of the question for the moment.
The part about the disappearance for five days without anyone knowing where he was, and who paid for his trips, may be a larger problem than the affair. The clock may be ticking towards the Governor's resignation.
