  • The "Liberal Lion" of the U. S. Senate, Ted Kennedy, Has Passed!

For forty-seven years, Ted Kennedy worked hard in the Senate for the underdog. Those he felt should have a chance at an education, livable wages, health care, jobs and the right to vote in the country in which they lived. Late Tuesday night, just before mid-night, Ted Kennedy, the senior Senator of Massachusetts and champion of the people lost his battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family, in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. Senator Kennedy took his brother, John F.Kennedy's, seat in the Senate when JFK won the presidency, he kept that seat for forty-seven years. He suffered through having a broken back in a plane crash, where he almost died. His reputation suffered when a young woman died in a drowning incident. But he fought back and applied himself in working to change the country for the better. He had a hand in the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act, the Immigration Bill, the Medicare changes, the Education Bill to give more young people grants for college, the Women's Rights Act, and on and on. He was not destined to be president of the United States, but in a way, Senator Kennedy influenced more domestic policy changes than most presidents have ever done. He endorsed Senator Barack Obama over Senator Hillary Clinton, in the 2008 primary, saying it was time for a new generation of political leadership, it was time for Barack Obama. His speeches saying "for those whose cares are our concern, the work goes on, the cause still lives, and the dream will never die" were tremendous rallying cries for the Democrats. When he endorsed Senator Barack Obama, he said it was time for change and he felt Senator Obama represented that change.
Senator Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer in May, 2008.
He is survived by his second wife of seventeen years, Vicki, his three
children and seven grandchildren. One of the greatest liberal politicians in the history of the United States government. A man most say who knew how to work together with those in the Senate, a fighter, a champion for those without. A void has been created in the Senate and we need another gladiator, as someone called him, to pick up the sword and shield, and go forward to fight the good fight, the cause of his life as Senator Kennedy called it. Senator Edward Moore Kennedy was 77 years old. He died one year to the day when he made the speech in Denver, Colorado endorsing Senator Barack Obama. It would be a huge understatement to say that Senator Kennedy will be missed. A giant of a man has left the stage, let the curtain come down slowly. May God bless the entire family and all of his friends. The funeral will reportedly be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help of Basilica on Saturday, of this week.

  • Blackwater Rising! Murder Implications!

At a civil trial in a U.S. District Court in Virginia, depositions taken from two ex-employees of Blackwater Worldwide now called Xe, have implicated the founder, Erik Prince, in possible murder charges and other crimes. The employees accuse the founder of viewing himself as a "Christian Crusder", on a mission in Iraq, to eliminate Muslims, and sending people out to specifically target and kill Iraqi Muslims. Several of the plaintiffs are connected to a September 2007 shooting incident, in Baghdad in which Iraqi security guards, then employed by Blackwater, fired on and killed 17 Iraqi civilians. The two ex-employees were identified in the depositions as John Doe #1 and John Doe #2. The families of the people who were killed are suing the company. Jeremy Scahill of The Nation, reported on the disclosures. The company founder is also accused of smuggling illegal weapons into Iraq. They reportedly also used exploding bullets and laughed about shooting people in the backside and seeing the result of the exploding bullets.
Bizarre, to say the least. This information is thought to certainly stir up calls for a congressional investigation, when Congress reconvenes.

The two journalists are safely back in the United States after former President Bill Clinton intervened on their behalf and brought the back from North Korea. Reportedly Mr. Clinton said prior to the trip that he would not go if President Obama did not approve. The White House was caught in a bit if a quandary because Mr. Clinton went home without being de-briefed, and there is no way to request a private citizen to report for de-briefing according to protocol. Mrs. Clinton will surely take care of that detail, we hope, or not.

Governor Mark Sanford's Press Secretary resigned on Wednesday.

The vote on Judge Sonia Sotomayor may happen on Thursday in the Senate.
Two more Republicans, Kit Bond of Missouri and Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, broke with their party and will vote for Sotomayor. Senator

  • Mission Accomplished! Two Journalists Freed!

Former President Bill Clinton traveled to Pyongyang, Korea, on a "personal mission" according to the White House, and secured the release
of the two journalists, who were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor.
Laura Ling and Euna Lee were sentenced in June, for entering North Korea illegally and engaging in "hostile acts" as reported by news agency sources in South Korea. Sources in the U. S. reported that the deal had already been negotiated prior to Mr. Clinton leaving for North Korea. Mr.Clinton was met with flowers at the airport, when he arrived and shared a meal with the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il while he was there. The journalists were given a special pardon by the President of North Korea.
Retired General Barry McCafferty, said in an interview that this may not be such a good thing in one respect, as the North Koreans are always looking for cover in these instances, and they may use this kind gesture of releasing the two women, to do something more provocative in essence. Especially related to the nuclear weapons matter, knowing that the U.S. may be muted a bit after the kind gesture by North Korea in releasing the two women. It is a good thing the women are coming home.
Now if the journalists, travelers and hitchhikers would stay in safe areas where they are not subject to jail sentences or worse. Find a map for goodness sake.

A new Gallup poll shows that there are 30 out of 50 states in the U.S., which are solidly Democratic, while only 4 states are solidly Republican.

The Republicans have issued edicts to their supporters to go out to the mostly Democratic town hall meetings, which are aimed at promoting the passage of health care reform, and disrupt the proceedings. In Austin,
Texas, Democrat Lloyd Doggett, and Arlen Spector, in Pennsylvania, had their town hall meetings interrupted by hecklers and shouts, against the changes being offered to better health care. The bottom line, it seems, is that the people are so uninformed in most instances, such as the insurance companies, due to lack of competition, contining to raise health care policy premiums, or if you have an existing pre-condition, you are not allowed to obtain coverage because of that illness, that a lot of people are in essence, working against their own best interests.
Anyone who is being paid minimum wage, would have approximately $1,200

The Senate must vote before the week-end to keep the "Cash for Clunkers"
program in effect. The House already passed the bill to put more money into the very popular program. The Republicans, including Senator John McCain think it is a bad idea, saying it is another bailout for the auto companies. Is it saving a few jobs, Mr. McCain, such as the F-22 program that you were for, where billions were being spent to build airplanes that could not fly in the rain, and were sitting in hangars, not being used, but your home state wanted to continue producing them and you were on board for the ride. Give it up!
