On a historical Saturday night in the U. S. Congress, two-hundred and nineteen Democrats and one Republican voted to pass the health care reform bill. The final total 220-215 to make the bill a law. House speaker Nancy Pelosi praised the leadership of the committee chairs in completing the remarkable passage of the bill. The bill would take away an insurance companies ability to refuse coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, also the companies will not be able to take away coverage if you get sick. Young people will be able to stay on their parents insurance plan until they are 27 years of age, the doughnut holes in coverage for seniors will be closed, the public option will be included in the plan, people will be able to chose the best health care plan for themselves. The cost at this point is reported at 1.1 trillion dollars, the plan will now provide health coverage for an additional 36 million Americans. The AARP and the American Medical Association backed the plan. The next hurdle will be the Senate where Senator "No Go" Joe stands at the gate. There may just be too strong a wave for Senator Lieberman to hold up the passage of this historical bill. We shall see. Congratulations to Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats for having the backbone to move forward on behalf of the American people.
